Marketing should help your business grow... not take over your life.

Running a business is hard enough without feeling like you have to become a full-time marketer, too. I help small businesses build thoughtful marketing strategies, stronger brands, and sustainable systems that support long-term growth.

Hi, I'm Holly Freed

I started Freed Creative because I saw too many business owners feeling overwhelmed by marketing.

They were chasing trends, posting because they felt like they had to, and investing time and money into tactics without a clear strategy behind them.

Marketing shouldn't feel like another full-time job.

It should give you clarity, confidence, and the tools to grow your business in a way that feels sustainable. That's exactly what I help my clients build.

No matter what work we're doing, my goal is always the same:

To help you spend less time wondering what to do next and more time doing the work you love.

What It's Like to Work Together

Strategy First

Every recommendation starts with your goals, not the latest marketing trend. Together, we'll build a plan that's thoughtful, intentional, and tailored to your business.

Collaborative

Great marketing isn't created in a vacuum. I'll work alongside you, explain the "why" behind every recommendation, and make sure you feel confident moving forward.

Practical

Marketing should be realistic to maintain. Everything we create is designed to fit your time, budget, and long-term goals—not just your launch day.

Built to grow

I'm focused on long-term growth, not quick wins. Together, we'll create marketing systems that evolve alongside your business and support what's next.

A Family Tradition

Maybe being a founder was always in the cards

When I started Freed Creative, I thought I was taking a pretty big leap. It turns out, I was also following a well-worn family path.

On both sides of my family, generations of people have built businesses of their own. My dad spent most of his career running the business his father owned before him.

On my mom's side, my great-grandfather owned a vacuum shop that my grandfather later took over, while also trying his hand at other ventures along the way. My mom and aunt have always found ways to turn their creative talents into side businesses of their own.

Recently, while reading through my grandfather's journals, I found an entry where he wrote that going into business for himself was the best thing he ever did.

I can't think of a better reminder that maybe this was always in my blood.

My Path to Freed Creative

For nearly a decade, I've helped organizations tell their stories, connect with their communities, and grow through thoughtful marketing.

I've worked with healthcare organizations, nonprofits, hospitality businesses, professional service firms, and local businesses across Chicagoland.

Along the way, I realized my favorite part of the job wasn't simply creating marketing... it was helping business owners understand it.

I love taking something that feels complicated and making it approachable.

Helping someone finally understand why their website isn't converting.

Watching a business owner realize they don't actually have to be everywhere online.

Seeing a strategy come together and finally click.

Those moments are what inspired Freed Creative.

I want my clients to feel freed.

Freed from chasing every trend.
Freed from second-guessing every decision.
Freed to focus on what they do best.

Why "Freed"?

Freed Creative is named after my married last name, but it also represents the kind of experience I hope every client walks away with.

When I started this business, it marked the beginning of a new chapter—both personally and professionally. I wanted to build something that reflected my values, my approach to marketing, and the kind of partner I strive to be for every client.

Like the plants you'll find throughout my brand, healthy businesses don't grow overnight. They grow with strong roots, the right environment, and consistent care.

That belief inspired not only the plant-filled identity behind Freed Creative, but also The Greenhouse, a community where business owners can learn practical marketing skills, build confidence, and grow alongside one another.

Beyond the Work

Outside of work, you'll usually find me adding another houseplant to an already full collection, tending my community garden plot, trying a new restaurant somewhere in Chicago, listening to Taylor Swift, planning my next adventure, or spending time with my husband and our dog, Daisy (named for Daisy Cutter, my favorite craft beer).

I'm endlessly curious, love learning new things, and firmly believe that some of the best business conversations happen over coffee. I'm always down for coffee.

Every healthy business starts with strong roots.

Whether you're planting something new or ready for your next season of growth, I'm here to help.
